HomeFirst Funding for Affordable Housing

It seems that I'm not the only person preaching housing affordability through secondary suites...my meeting with Stacie at Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership enlightened me to a program offered by Saskatchewan Housing Corporation called the HomeFirst Secondary Suites Program.

Under the program, Sask Housing will contribute up to $24k to the construction or renovation of a legal secondary suite for people with income under their threshold of $44,500 for singles/couples or $52,000 for households with dependants. The only catch is that the homeowner has to receive the grant, not a builder.

I'm in the process of working with Sask Housing to qualify the Shift Home for the HomeFirst Secondary Suites Program. If successful, this will help to eliminate another barrier to housing affordability and will make the Shift Home accessible to a much larger demographic of people.

Stay tuned for the outcome...
