Free Greenbacks with Energy Star

We are working towards Energy Star certification for the Shift Home, which is deemed to place it in the top 30% of homes in terms of energy efficiency.
As it turns out, we are building the Shift Home to a much higher standard than what Energy Star is requiring (for instance our R40 walls are way beyond the required R20 insulation for Energy Star). As a bonus, buyers of Energy Star homes qualify for the following grants:
Energy Star qualified home $1000
Solar domestic water heating system $1000
Drain-Water Heat Recovery System $150
One natural gas appliance $100
Two natural gas appliances $250
In the case of the Shift Home, this should amount to a grant ranging between $1250 - $2500 depending on the finished specs.
In addition to the grants above, there is also a rebate on the mortgage insurance premiums paid for high ratio mortgages (over 80% loan to value). The brochure from SaskEnergy documents how a person buying a $300k Energy Star home with 5% down would get a discount on mortgage insurance of $783.75.
Visit the website for info on Saskatchewan's Energy Star program and the available grants.
I think we'll call these grants the "Welcome to the green neighborhood" handshake.
